Alright, let's talk about the Audio Technica ATR 2500x
I’ve done an episode about the equipment that I recommend for podcasting.
And if you’re just starting out with your podcast, this could be the microphone that you could choose from.
Let's get into it.

FIRST IMPRESSION
This microphone reminds me a lot of the Rode NT1. I'm not saying it's going to sound like that. But it definitely reminds me of that microphone because it's got your side address versus your end address.
Side address means you will speak in front, which is on the side of the microphone. Versus end address means you will speak to the top of the microphone.
It also has Dials in the front. So, I like that there's a very clear distinguishment between the front and the back.
It's also going to help you from a functionality standpoint; if you're in the middle of recording and you've got these dials right in front of you, or you've got your headphone jack in front, that's going to be super helpful.
SIDE ADDRESS MICROPHONES CONSIDERATIONS
Now, if you're going to add a video component to what you do, consider the side-address aspects. Let's say you need to be 2-3 inches from the microphone to get the best sounding quality audio.
Guess what?
Your face can't be seen.
So, if you're talking to your audience with your microphone covering half your face, how engaging do you think you're going to be to your audience?
You're losing half of your personality and expression.
So that's something to consider.
And then if you put a pop filter or pop screen on it, my guess is there's a pop filter that'll just fit right on top of the microphone, and it won't be that intrusive in terms of adding further blockage to your face and visibility.
But something to look into.
ATR 2500x USB COMPONENTS
For the components that come with this microphone, I like the seamless functionality of the stand. I appreciate that they sent one. Some microphones came with nothing that you can't even use until you buy a cord.
But you can tell that this mic stand's plastic quality is cheap. But it's a great travel option. So, if you're recording your podcast, and you're going to be doing it on your laptop, you can just put this in a bag and go seamlessly. Which makes this is a great option. You can't do that with other stands, they're metal, heavy, and it's difficult. So this is a great travel option.
If I bought this microphone, I would plan the pop filter for one again. And I would plan to have an at homestand, a generic or Audio Technica mic arm if you want a mic arm, or get a stand that sits. So overall, the components feel cheap. Not the microphone; the microphone seems fine.
MICROPHONE CONNECTIVITY
Connectivity-wise, you're in great shape because this will give you multiple options.
I like that it got USB C; this is a universal USB C. Two on both ends of the cord is great because you don't have to worry about finding it because this is a very generic thing.
So, to people who are just starting, I recommend going with a USB microphone. Because you can travel with it, and there's not a lot of things that require you to have with it. It's just a plug-and-go situation.
And this ATR 2500x USB is a great option. This gives you the traditional USB and USB C.
MICROPHONE TEST
The microphone sits very low. It is about 8-10 inches far from the face. And adjusting it is not that big of a deal.
So, depending on what you think sounds best, listening to it tells you where you need to sit. I will say this; if the sound is okay for you in 8-10 inches, you're probably okay. You could do your podcast; you could do your video with this microphone. The microphone isn't blocking the face, and it's comfortable.
Now, if it requires you to be 3-4 inches close to the microphone, you have a different problem because now you need something that raises the microphone or lowers you down to where you need to be working level.
Next, if you hear an echo in the room, it will pick up some of the noises in the background. Unfortunately, you can't make your dog bark, or you can't make your neighbor go crazy outside. But it does happen, and it's always going to happen at the most inopportune times when you drop bombs on amazing content, and then something happens and ruins it, and you will need to record again.
So, consider that but get a good idea of the sound sample for this.

My last piece of advice is, if you don't like it, you can always send it back.
See what you think sounds best. Everybody's got preferences.
Everybody hears and sees things differently. What you like, somebody else hates.
So, it comes down to what you feel makes your voice sound the best, what you want to present to the world because ultimately are the ones who got away with it.
